Top Vatican adviser Jeffrey Sachs says that when Pope Francis visits the United States in September, he will directly challenge the “American idea” of God-given rights embodied in the Declaration of Independence.

Sachs, a special advisor to the United Nations and director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, is a media superstar who can always be counted on to pontificate endlessly on such topics as income inequality and global health. This time, writing in a Catholic publication, he may have gone off his rocker, revealing the real global game plan.

The United States, Sachs writes in the Jesuit publication, America, is “a society in thrall” to the idea of unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But the “urgent core of Francis’ message” will be to challenge this “American idea” by “proclaiming that the path to happiness lies not solely or mainly through the defense of rights but through the exercise of virtues, most notably justice and charity.”

In these extraordinary comments, which constitute a frontal assault on the American idea of freedom and national sovereignty, Sachs has made it clear that he hopes to enlist the Vatican in a global campaign to increase the power of global or foreign-dominated organizations and movements.

Sachs takes aim at the phrase, which comes from America’s founding document, the United States Declaration of Independence, that “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

These rights sound good, Sachs writes, but they’re not enough to guarantee the outcome the global elites have devised for us. Global government, he suggests, must make us live our lives according to international standards of development.

“In the United States,” Sachs writes, “we learn that the route to happiness lies in the rights of the individual. By throwing off the yoke of King George III, by unleashing the individual pursuit of happiness, early Americans believed they would achieve that happiness. Most important, they believed that they would find happiness as individuals, each endowed by the creator with individual rights.”

While he says there is some “grandeur in this idea,” such rights “are only part of the story, only one facet of our humanity.”

The Sachs view is that global organizations such as the U.N. must dictate the course of nations and individual rights must be sacrificed for the greater good. One aspect of this unfolding plan, as outlined in the Sachs book, The End of Poverty, involves extracting billions of dollars from the American people through global taxes.

“We will need, in the end, to put real resources in support of our hopes,” he wrote. “A global tax on carbon-emitting fossil fuels might be the way to begin. Even a very small tax, less than that which is needed to correct humanity’s climate-deforming overuse of fossil fuels, would finance a greatly enhanced supply of global public goods.” Sachs has estimated the price tag for the U.S. at $845 billion.

In preparation for this direct assault on our rights, the American nation-state, and our founding document, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon told a Catholic Caritas International conference in Rome on May 12 that climate change is “the defining challenge of our time,” and that the solution lies in recognizing that “humankind is part of nature, not separate or above.”

The pope’s expected encyclical on climate change is supposed to help mobilize the governments of the world in this crusade.

But a prestigious group of scholars, churchmen, scientists, economists, and policy experts has issued a detailed rebuttal, entitled, “An Open Letter to Pope Francis on Climate Change,” pointing out that the Bible tells man to have dominion over the earth.

“Good climate policy must recognize human exceptionalism, the God-given call for human persons to ‘have dominion’ in the natural world (Genesis 1:28), and the need to protect the poor from harm, including actions that hinder their ascent out of poverty,” the letter to Pope Francis states.

Released by a group called the Cornwall Alliance, the letter urges the Vatican to consider the evidence that climate change is largely natural, that the human contribution is comparatively small and not dangerous, and that attempting to mitigate the human contribution by reducing CO2 emissions “would cause more harm than good, especially to the world’s poor.”

The Heartland Institute held a news conference on April 27 at the Hotel Columbus in Rome to warn the Vatican against embracing the globalist agenda of the climate change movement. The group is hosting the 10th International Conference on Climate Change in Washington, D.C., on June 11-12.

However, it appears as if the Vatican has been captured by the globalist forces associated with Sachs and the United Nations.

Voice of the Family, a group representing pro-life and pro-family Catholic organizations from around the world, has taken issue not only with the Vatican’s involvement with Sachs, but with Ban Ki Moon, describing the two as “noted advocates of abortion who operate at the highest levels of the United Nations.”Sachs has been described as “arguably the world’s foremost proponent of population control,” including abortion.

Voice of the Family charges that environmental issues such as climate change have become “an umbrella to cover a wide spectrum of attacks on human life and the family.”

Although Sachs likes to claim he was an adviser to Pope John Paul II, the noted anti-communist and pro-life pontiff, Sachs simply served as a member of a group of economists invited to confer with the Pontifical Council on Justice and Peace in advance of the release of a papal document.

In fact, Pope John Paul II had worked closely with the Reagan administration in opposition to communism and the global population control movement. He once complained that a U.N. conference on population issues was designed to “destroy the family” and was the “snare of the devil.”

Pope Francis, however, seems to have embraced the very movements opposed by John Paul II.

Sachs, who has emerged as a very influential Vatican adviser, recently tweeted that he was “thrilled” to be at the Vatican “discussing moral dimensions of climate change and sustainable development.” The occasion was a Vatican workshop on global warming on April 28, 2015, sponsored by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences of the Roman Catholic Church. Sachs was a featured speaker.

The plan going forward involves the launching of what are called “Sustainable Development Goals,” as envisioned by a Sustainable Development Solutions Network run by none other than Jeffrey Sachs.

“The Network has proposed draft Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which contain provisions that are radically antagonistic to the right to life from conception to natural death, to the rights and dignity of the family and to the rights of parents as the primary educators of their children,” states the group Voice of the Family.

In July, a Financing for Development conference will be held, in order to develop various global tax proposals, followed by a conference in Paris in December to complete a new climate change agreement.

Before that December conference, however, Sachs says the pope will call on the world at the United Nations to join the crusade for a New World Order.

Sachs says, “Pope Francis will come to the United States and the United Nations in New York on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, and at the moment when the world’s 193 governments are resolved to take a step in solidarity toward a better world. On Sept. 25, Pope Francis will speak to the world leaders—most likely the largest number of assembled heads of state and government in history—as these leaders deliberate to adopt new Sustainable Development Goals for the coming generation. These goals will be a new worldwide commitment to build a world that aims to harmonize the pursuit of economic prosperity with the commitments to social inclusion and environmental sustainability.”

Rather than emphasize the absolute need for safeguarding individual rights in the face of government overreach and power, Sachs writes that the Gospel teachings of humility, love, and justice, “like the teachings of Aristotle, Buddha and Confucius,” can take us on a “path to happiness through compassion” and “become our guideposts back to safety.”

Writing elsewhere in the new issue of America, Christiana Z. Peppard, an assistant professor of theology, science, and ethics at Fordham University, writes about the “planetary pope,” saying, “What is really at stake in the collective response to the pope’s encyclical is not, ultimately, whether our treasured notions of theology, science, reality or development can accommodate moral imperatives. The real question is whether we are brave enough and willing to try.”

The plan is quite simple: world government through global taxes, with a religious face to bring it about.

The decision by the Vatican to grant diplomatic recognition to the state of Palestine has reignited speculation in the biblical end-time prophecy blogosphere about supposed evidence identifying Pope Francis as the end-time “False Prophet” and the Vatican as the “Babylon the Great, Mother of Harlots” described in the Book of Revelation.

Many biblical evangelical end-time pundits are saying that the move by the Holy See to grant diplomatic recognition to the state of Palestine gives support to longstanding speculation that the Catholic Church is the “Great Harlot” described prophetically in the Revelation 17: 15-17.

“And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. And the angel said unto me, wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.”

End-time prophecy pundits also argue that Pope Francis’s alleged leftist tendencies identify him as the “False Prophet” described in Revelation 19:19-20.

“And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.” 

What this means in the eschatological scheme of evangelicals is that Pope Francis and the Roman Catholic Church will play a role in the coalition of the forces of evil against “true” Christians (that is, evangelical Christians) and the state of Israel during the period of the “Great Tribulation” preceding the Second Coming of Jesus.

Evangelical Christians believe that the state of Israel is central to biblical end-time events that will usher in Armageddon, the final apocalyptic battle between the cosmic forces of good and evil. Biblical end-time conspiracy theorists also believe that left-leaning progressives who support the statehood of Palestine and criticize Israel’s policy in the Middle East are part of the coalition of the New World Order (NWO) forces of evil that will fight Israel and Jesus at the Second Coming.

However, many end-time pundits say there aren’t any clear indications yet about the identity of the “Beast” or “Antichrist,” the major player in biblical end-time events. While some have speculated that it could be President Barrack Obama, others deny it, saying that the Beast, identified cryptically by the number 666, is yet to be revealed.

Regardless, evangelical analysts of Middle East affairs say that the latest move by the Holy See will lend legitimacy to the struggle for statehood by the Palestinian Authority under Mahmoud Abbas.

The Palestinian authorities have embarked on a strategy to move beyond the stalled U.S.-sponsored peace negotiations with Israel by seeking international support. The Palestinian Authority (PA) won a nonmember observer state status for Palestine in the U.N. in 2012.

Palestinian analysts described the Vatican announcement as a significant victory because of the international stature of Pope Francis and the global influence of the Catholic Church.

The New York Times quotes a senior Palestinian official saying that “The Vatican is not just a state. The Vatican represents hundreds of millions of Christians worldwide, including Palestinians, and has vast moral significance.”

Meanwhile, the Israeli authorities watch with growing concern the widening acceptance of the legitimacy of the Palestinian quest for statehood by the international community. The United Nations and several European states have made clear their acceptance of the legitimacy of the aspiration of the Palestinians for independent statehood.

Several European parliaments passed resolutions supportive of Palestinian statehood last year.

Israel’s foreign ministry expressed disappointment at the decision by the Vatican and said it would not “advance the peace process.”

Salon reports that David Harris, head of the American Jewish Committee, said the decision by the Vatican to recognize Palestine, “a state that, in reality, does not yet exist, is a regrettable move, counterproductive to all who seek true peace between Israel and the Palestinians.”

The statement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the March 17 elections that he would not support a peace agreement that leads to the establishment of a Palestinian state has only helped to increase skepticism in the global community about the commitment of his government to the two-state solution.

Following Netanyahu’s statement, the Obama administration threatened to “reassess” U.S. relations with Israel, while several European countries increased pressure on the Israeli authorities to end the occupation of the West Bank.

However, the Vatican announcement did not come as a surprise to those who have followed the development of the relationship between the Holy See and the PA since 2012 after the U.N. officially recognized Palestinian statehood.

Negotiations that culminated in Wednesday’s announcement have been on since 2012.

The Vatican announced the new treaty only days before Pope Francis was due to canonize two Palestinian nuns, Marie Alphonsine Ghattas and Mariam Bawardy.

Britain has been labeled the “European capital of inequality” after a report found it is the most unequal country in the EU.

As part of a progressive study, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) analyzed wages across the EU.

The report, titled Recent Developments in the Distribution of Wages in Europe, scrutinized data from 2004 to 2011 – the period before and after the onset of the Great Recession.

It found that the UK has the highest Gini coefficient of any EU member state – higher than that of the US. The coefficient is a widely used measure of income distribution within a nation, and is often used to calculate inequality.

According to analysts at Eurofound, Britain has a Gini coefficient of 0.404, while the US’ is 0.4.

Portugal and Latvia followed the UK with Gini coefficients of 0.358 and 0.357, respectively. The average Gini index for the EU as a whole in 2011 was 0.346.

The report, which was published last week, says: “The evolution of inequality in the EU as a whole seems to have been significantly affected by the economic crisis of 2008 [onward].”

Between 2004 and 2008, there was a clear reduction in EU wage inequality, reflected in a fall in the overall Gini index from 0.368 to 0.336 (a 10 percent decrease in four years). This fall came to a halt in 2008, and the trend started to slowly reverse, growing to 0.346,” it adds.

British economist Michael Burke said Eurofound’s study proves previous claims by Prime Minister David Cameron that Britain’s economy is recovering from the recession were false.

Speaking to RT on Tuesday, Burke said: “The Tory government is fond of making spurious claims about Britain being the strongest economy in Europe. But the reality is that Britain under the Tories is the European capital of inequality.”

All of the deterioration in the Gini coefficient in the EU is caused by the worsening of inequality,” he added.

The jobs machine that David Cameron [is referring to] is in reality low-paid jobs, many of them providing unproductive services to the ultra-rich.”

In its conclusion, the report found inequality to be increasing across the EU.

The Great Recession changed the trend of overall EU wage inequality.

“Between 2004 and 2008, EU wage inequality, decreased; after 2008, it increased,” it said.

Globally, the authors said that inequality has been growing within developed nations since the late 1970s.

Beginning with Anglo-Saxon countries, the growth of inequality eventually reached “traditionally low inequality countries” such as the Nordic countries during the 2000s.

Following the financial crisis of 2007-08 the UK became an outlier in the EU, as income equality began growing “very rapidly.

The overall increase in EU inequality since 2008 was “to a large extent driven by developments in the UK,” the report said. “Without which the overall EU within-country component of inequality remained more or less stable as a result of rather diverse developments at the country level.”

A YouGov survey conducted this month and published Monday found that most UK voters believe the government should prioritize reducing the gap between rich and poor over faster economic growth.

Some 50 percent of residents polled said inequality was more important, while 43 percent favored rapid economic growth.

Conservative supporters had the least concern about income inequality, while the majority of Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green voters said it should be prioritized by the government.

A few days ago I posted The Mysteries of CERN and The Unknown at my LogosApologia.org website featuring links to my recent appearance on the Jim Bakker show with my On the Path of the Immortals co-author Tom Horn. Tom wrote a very interesting chapter “Secrets of the CERN Stargate” that becomes more prescient each day. Within science, the portal concept is perfectly respectable, explaining why the research director at CERN, physicist Sergio Bertolucci, said that  the LHC could open a door and,“Out of this door might come something, or we might send something through it.” That early statement form the research director set the tone for the ongoing discussion of interdimensional  and braneworld portals.

Scientists theorize that the particle collisions withing the LHC might tear a small hole into four dimensional space-time, creating a tiny worm hole. In order to manufacture a large traversable wormhole, one would start at the particle level and stretch it up to navigable size. Even so, a new study proposes that all spiral galaxies (like our Milky Way) already feature wormholes and may even feature a “galactic transport system“.

In Bible prophecy, such a portal is opened to the bottomless pit releasing genetic monstrosities led by an immortal supernatural being.

“They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.” (Revelation 9:11)

Many passages speak of  otherworldly “gates” (Gen 28:17; Mat 16:18 ) and God often speaks “out of the whirlwind,” (Job 38:1) making models of a traversable wormhole (which would seem like a whirlwind or vortex) an intriguing explanation.

Earlier today, Sharon Gilbert asked me to type IPETGOATII into google maps in order to observe the result. The result was CERN. I also tried it with Google Earth and my top two results were CERN and the Dome of the Rock! So why are these addresses associated with the film?

Why is google directing this term to CERN? Are we implying by our search associations that CERN beckons the apocalypse? Is Google having some fun? If you are not yet familiar please watch the short film I Pet Goat II and check out the website at http://www.heliofant.com/.

The film gets its title from elementary school reader My Pet Goat the children were reading from when George Busch Jr. was in the classroom on 9/11. The film proposes that the events of 9/11 were orchestrated as a mass exposure occult ritual. Even the classroom itself is part of the spell! I found this to be especially creepy, check out the vocabulary the teacher pulls out while Bush looks on.

Seriously, it seems like more than coincidence! Was this all orchestrated (including the kid’s lesson) as an elaborate public yet occult ritual?

The film presents an apocalyptic scenario in which all world religions merge under a central universal messiah that looks like Jesus (yet features the all seeing eye on his forehead). The film is dark as Drako the sorcerer controls the world through finance, an idea also concordant with prophecy, “so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name.(Re 13:17) However, the New Age looking Jesus traveling down the river Styx of the Egyptian underworld at the close of the film leaves me disappointed and pondering the producer’s worldview…

The film seems to be missing the blessed hope of the return of Christ. Because of that, I wonder if the film makers are more or less secular members of the truth movement? Perhaps viewing all religion as tool of the elite and not accounting for the triune God and His church leads them to uncertainty. Even so, it all fits within biblical prophecy — as many are now recognizing. The argument from prophecy is winning many truthers to Christianity.

If the occult and supernatural are real, then consider that Bible prophecy speaks to these power elites who are conducting the rituals:

“Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”(Psalm 2:1–3)

Not once over the last 2,000 years has the Vatican endorsed Muslim control of the Holy Land. Why now?

First Cuba, now the Palestinians. Pope Francis is a man on a mission. But what is his mission exactly? The rhetoric and body language, the gracious gestures, the incessant smiles and compliments give the impression of a selfless leader determined to broker peace, cooperation and tranquillity. In Cuba, Israel, and all over this chaotic, disunited planet.

But consider the decisions and actions. In both Cuba and Israel, the Vatican is creating tension, disunity and instability that are likely to lead to conflict and war.

Yesterday the Vatican revealed that it had formally recognized the “state of Palestine” in a newly finalized treaty with the Palestinians. (Pope Francis and the Vatican had previously supported the “state of Palestine,” but never formally like this). The treaty defines the Catholic Church’s activities in areas controlled by the Palestinians, and will be signed by both sides this Saturday when Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas visits the Vatican.

Critics of Israel and patrons of Palestinian statehood are elated. The movement to recognize a Palestinian state has gained momentum in recent years, particularly within the United Nations; an endorsement from the pope and the Vatican is huge. Time will tell, but gaining the support of the most respected and admired leader on Earth could be just what is needed to get the project of Palestinian statehood over the finish line.

For the Jewish state and its declining number of supporters, the Vatican’s decision was an enormous blow. “This move does not promote the peace process and distances the Palestinian leadership from returning to direct and bilateral negotiations,” Israel’s foreign minister said in a text message to the Associated Press.

Indeed. In return for its vital support of Palestinian statehood, the Vatican required absolutely nothing from the Palestinians. There was no requirement of the Palestinian Authority (PA) to sincerely engage in peace talks with Israel, no demand that it recognize Israel’s right to exist, and no demand that it sever its connection with Hamas and publicly renounce Hamas’s ambitions. Nothing.

“The one thing we can be sure it won’t do is to improve the chances for peace,”explained Jonathon Tobin, senior online editor for Commentary magazine. “By granting the Palestinians official recognition without first requiring them to make peace with Israel, Pope Francis and the church have only made it less likely that this will ever happen” (emphasis added throughout). Others were more dramatic. Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, released a statement saying that the Vatican’s action “serves to undermine the only real solution to the decades-old conflict.”

Mort Klein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, warned that the Vatican’s endorsement of Palestinian statehood is a sign of the resurgence of “THE HISTORICAL CATHOLIC ENMITY TOWARDS JEWS.”

That remark by Klein is really worth thinking about. Pope Francis and the Vatican are selling this decision as a routine gesture of goodwill toward the Palestinians, and a decision that could even jump-start the peace process. Don’t buy it. The Vatican’s endorsement of the Palestinian cause will add major momentum to the international movement toward Palestinian statehood. This will pile more pressure on Israel to make more concessions, even to the detriment of its existence. And when and if Israel refuses to concede, it is certain to be held responsible for the inevitable tension and conflict.

The Israeli-Palestinian peace process is destined to end in conflict—and the Vatican’s decision brings that day nearer.

The timing is interesting too. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was recently reelected and just last week finalized a coalition government that could be more hardline than the previous. Going forward, Israel’s government—justifiably, reasonably and wisely—will continue to be extremely cautious about any sort of peace deal with the Palestinians. Israel’s prime minister is trying to slow the momentum toward Palestinian statehood, convince nations that the PA cannot be trusted, and persuade the international community to demand more from the Palestinians in return for statehood. The Vatican’s announcement undermines all this and makes Prime Minister Netanyahu’s job much more difficult. It was a veiled message to Israel’s conservative government: Don’t get too excited, and don’t get too comfortable.

Imagine Netanyahu sitting down to discuss the peace process with another world leader. Pope Francis supports Palestinian statehood without any demands on the Palestinians, why shouldn’t I? Mr. Netanyahu could hear that refrain from pretty much every world leader he meets. And as long as he refuses to accept a deal in which the other side is not required to alter its genocidal ambitions, Israel’s prime minister will be maligned and ostracized.

It’s also worth recalling the Balkan wars, scenes of which dominated our television screens during the early 1990s. The Vatican, together with Germany, played a key role in instigating Yugoslavia’s dissolution and the long and brutal conflicts that erupted. How? By being one of the first to formally recognize—despite strong opposition from the United States, the European Union and the UN—the breakaway regions of Croatia and Slovenia as independent and sovereign states. Most of the international community dutifully followed along. Within months, the Balkan Peninsula was on fire (for more information on this critical history, read our free booklet Germany’s Conquest of the Balkans).

Will we see similar tension and conflict erupt in Israel as a result of the Vatican’s support of the Palestinians? It seems inevitable.

Consider one last thought. Isn’t it odd that Pope Francis and the Vatican seem to be supporting Muslim control of parts of Jerusalem?

I can’t think of a single moment over the past 2,000 years when the Vatican sincerely endorsed Muslim control of Jerusalem. I can, however, recall multiple occasions when the Vatican riled up Catholic warriors and dispatched them to the Holy Land to wrest control from the Muslims. Why would Pope Francis reject two millennia of Catholic history—even rejecting Catholic doctrine and tradition—and support Muslim sovereignty in the Holy Land? That’s just really odd.

Actually, Pope Francis and the Vatican do not support the presence of Muslims in Jerusalem any more than they do the presence of Jews.

There are two simple reasons the Vatican, for now, is making it appear that it supports a Palestinian state and greater Muslim influence over Jerusalem.

First, it undermines Israel’s control over the Holy Land. When it comes to diminishing Israel’s grip on Jerusalem and its holy sites, the Vatican is quite happy for the Palestinians to do the gritty work. An honest assessment of Palestinian leadership and governance, at least up till now, reveals endemic corruption, mismanagement, infighting and internal strife. Can the Palestinians successfully create a stable, prosperous, safe Palestinian state in Israel? Slim chance.

Second, the Vatican’s endorsement of Palestinian statehood provides ideal cover for its own ambition to wrest control of Jerusalem from the Jews and Muslims.

Reading about the treaty that will be signed this Saturday, one can’t help but wonder: Has the Vatican come to some kind of quid pro quo with the Palestinians? Jerusalem is as important and meaningful to the Catholic Church as Rome itself, probably more so. There are many sites that the Catholic Church considers highly valuable. What has the PA agreed to cede to the Vatican in return for its endorsement of Palestinian statehood? This is conjecture. But this is the way politics, international relations and human nature work. People, nations, even most religions, will feign friendship and peace in pursuit of their goals.

Four years ago, Italian journalist Giulio Meotti, writing for Arutz Sheva, explained how Catholic authorities had “increased their political initiatives for Catholic control over some sites in Jerusalem.” He recalled, for example, how the head of the Vatican’s Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, had said that “peace negotiations in the Middle East must tackle the issue of the status of the holy sites of Jerusalem.” According to Tauran, the time had arrived for some of Jerusalem’s holy places, including the City of David, to be put under Vatican charge. After all, “it’s practically just the Holy See who is concerned about [Jerusalem],” Tauran stated.

Stories like this are pretty unusual. We don’t often read about the Vatican’s love for Jerusalem and its quest for more control. But it’s there, and it’s thriving. The Vatican is not a non-threatening, neutral third party in this conflict—though so much of the news media believes it is. History shows that Jerusalem is as important to the Vatican as it is to Jews and Muslims. For Catholics, Jerusalem is the birthplace of Christianity and the setting of many important biblical events. The Holy City, as Catholic dogma states, is its universal headquarters.

Does anyone really think the Vatican genuinely wants to cede control of these sites to Muslims?

We need to look past the handshakes and platitudes, and really think about what is going on here. This decision is part of a Trojan horse strategy by which the Vatican seeks to gain the trust of the Palestinians and international community before more actively staking its claim to Jerusalem and its holy sites. Whatever happens, the last thing we can expect is for the Vatican to stand by and cheer as Muslims assume control of Christianity’s holy sites. That is never going to happen.

In fact, putting Jerusalem under “international” control has been the Vatican’s strategy for decades. In 1949, the British plenipotentiary minister (essentially, the ambassador) to the Vatican, John Victor Perowne, wrote that “the Vatican would have preferred, from the point of view of the fate of the holy places and of Catholic interests in Palestine generally, that neither Jews nor Arabs, but a third power, should have control in the Holy Land. Such a solution it well knew, however, was unattainable, and in the actual circumstances it preferred the Arabs to the Jews.”

So here is what is likely to happen, at least in some form. This decision by the Vatican will embolden the Palestinians in their quest for Jerusalem, further ostracize the Jewish state, and increase tensions between Israel and the Palestinians, perhaps to the point of conflict (more terrorist attacks, etc.). As the situation deteriorates, Israel will continue to look for foreign assistance and support. Relations with its traditional allies, America and Britain, are rapidly deteriorating, and these countries have hardly any appetite for supporting Israel, at least in any meaningful way. Russia and China are more on the side of the Muslims than the Jews. Israel will find itself left with one option: crying out to Germany and Europe.

It’s true that Europeans and their leaders aren’t especially fond of Jews and the Jewish state. Then again, Germany, at least its chancellor, is arguably the closest friend and ally Israel has right now. Expect Israel to cry out to Germany for assistance. THIS IS PRECISELY THE RESPONSE THE VATICAN IS SEEKING!

The European Union and the Vatican both have the same official goal for Jerusalem. They want it to be an international city—controlled neither by Jews nor Arabs, but rather by some third party.

Why does the Vatican want this? In his book Christians and Jews: Faith to Faith, Rabbi James Rudin wrote that the Eastern Orthodox churches that own the majority of Jerusalem’s sacred Christian sites oppose internationalizing the city because it “would give greater control of Jerusalem’s Christian sites and institutions to the Roman Catholic Church, which has significant influence in Europe and the Western Hemisphere.”

It doesn’t take much imagination to see the Vatican being given the chief seat in how an “international” Jerusalem is governed! (After all, Pope Francis just brokered peace between America and Cuba.)

Israel is dead against this right now. But as it becomes more isolated and its situation becomes desperate, its resolve will start to crumble.

Of course, this is just one possible scenario. However it happens, the Vatican’s ambitions in Jerusalem are well documented. It desperately seeks greater control over Jerusalem, and every step it takes in its diplomacy with Israel and the Palestinian Arabs is dedicated to this end.
